Refreshing my mind on important terms
This weeks issues regarding Academic Integrity, Intellectual Property, and plagiarism was a good brain exercise because these are all terms I've heard of before, so I was pretty familiar with them. Of course as I began reading the assigned readings and watching the tutorials I began to remember the meanings of these terms and realized that I had never really thought much of it when I first learned about it because I was too young, but I've grown to learn that it is a very important matter. I remember when I was attending Allan Hancock College the first day of school almost every professor would talk about the importance of plagiarism, intellectual property, and academic integrity.
After refreshing my mind I must say that I feel confident in myself to not apply any kind of plagiarism or academic integrity in my work. I know it is very important to never use anyone's work without giving them credit for it. Even though I am familiar with these terms and know the consequences and importance of it I will be more careful and keep an eye out when doing research and having to write about it and make sure to cite it properly. I know that these ideas will only make me a better student and not only that, but a good teacher as well because I wouldn't want to give my students ideas that aren't mine and I will be able to teach them the importance of them and the consequences so that they do not apply it in their lives. Over all, I enjoyed the assigned readings and tutorials. It was great to be able to refresh my brain and remember the importance, meaning, and consequences of these terms.
Araceli,
ReplyDeleteI think you have a great grasp of the importance of academic integrity. I have to agree with you on the not fully understand the importance of this practice when I was younger. I remember having to site my sources when I was in high school. However, I did not fully understand why we really hand to complete the extra steps. Most of the time I would struggle with this part of the assignment and would guess on exactly what it was I was supposed to do.
Now that I am older and wiser, having a stronger understand of the world. I see that academic integrity is extremely important. If we do not practice this when we are doing our assignment we are basically cheating. This is not something I take lightly! Over the last few years I have learned we must appropriately site our sources and give homage to those who have done the hard work to provide us the data.
