Week 4 Assignment 2

Peer-reviewed Journal Article

The article that I chose to write about for this weeks assignment gave me a much more better understanding of my research topic. I realized the importance of obtaining a teaching credential and how it gives one the authority and qualification to a teacher. The article focused on how it's important for those who wish to teach as a career. You wouldn't trust for someone who doesn't have any kind of degree, any credential, and no history of education to teach your kid would you? Well that's the question that the article implemented.

When trying to find the right article I found it very helpful to go through more than one article and instead of reading and getting excited thinking I found the right one. It's very important to make sure that the article is relevant to your topic and that you can trust the author's work. It was a bit challenging for me to find an article that focused or related to my topic and began to get a bit frustrated, but I found Google scholar search helpful when looking for my article. I was having a hard time finding one because I had to shorten the words and constantly change the wording I would type on the search domain. I hope to continue gaining more knowledge on my topic and continue finding out how important it is to be certified and the process of it.

Week 3 Assignment 2

Book or Ebook?

Hello everyone! To start off, I want to say that this weeks assignment wasn't as easy and quick of a process like I thought it would be. I didn't think that searching for a book or e-book would be so hard, but it was for me. I first wanted to find a book and so I went to the public librabry and spent about two hours searching for the right book and getting help from the librarian, but I just couldn't find one that I felt comfortable with. After two hours I decided to search for an e-book instead and oh man let me just say it wasn't a piece of cake. I searched and searched online for many e-books until finally I came upon one that caught my attention. The title of the book is PRAXIS II: Elementary, Education, Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment by, Shannon Grey and Anita Price Davis.

Those hours I spent searching for the right book or e-book was well worth it because the book I found is awesome! By just reading the first two chapters I felt that I've gain so much more knowledge over my topic. I didn't just learn about how or what is a teaching credential, but I got so much more information out of it. I learned that there are steps in preparing for your teaching credentials and when is the correct timing to begin preparing for it and what subjects to focus on.  I had a difficult time searching for a book, but I think one new strategy that helped me while doing this research was to just take my time, skim through the text, and pay attention to the title. As I continue to do research on my topic I hope to find out more about the test subjects and how to prepare for each one of them.

Week 2 Assignment 2

Doing research takes time and effort!

As I mentioned before, my major is liberal studies and therefore, my research has to do with liberal studies. I first thought I would do research on "steps to becoming an elementary school teacher," but then I decided to narrow it down and focus on something that I never really thought much about; obtaining a teaching credential. I've always known you have to go to school and get your bachelor's degree and earn your teaching credentials, but never knew exactly what it was or what was the process to gaining one. I thought that doing research on this topic would be no sweat and straightforward, but man I must say I underestimated doing research. I took hours going thru many different websites until finally after about three hours of search I found the right one. I learned so much by reading the information, but not only that I learned how to evaluate sites and find reliable websites. One of the things that I learned after doing my research is that in order for you to earn your teaching credentials, you must have completed a professional teacher preparation program and  student teaching; at the level you desire to teach.

I first began doing my research by trying to find a reliable website by searching for it on Google, once I finally found the one, I then went into SAGE knowledge. I felt more confident and felt like I could trust SAGE reference more because of the criteria outlined in our Badke textbook. I have to say that the CRAAP test was a success and I will be using it more often now because it definitely helped me feel more secure when it comes to finding credible sources. I am looking forward to finding out more information on my topic because there are still some things that I want to understand better. For example, I want to know if there are programs I need to complete before and/or after obtaining my bachelor's degree to earn my multiple teaching credentials.

My first blog

Hello everybody and welcome to my blog!

My name is Araceli Rivera and my major is Liberal Studies. I have heard so many wonderful and successful stories about Brandman University and feel so lucky to be able to finish my education here. In the year 2014 I experienced taking one course here at Brandman, but was unable to continue at that time, but now I am back and here to finish! It has always been my dream to become an elementary school teacher and I am so happy to know that I am very close to accomplishing my goals and will have the career I've always dreamed of.

As I mentioned before, I am perusing my career as an elementary school teacher. Even though I've always known that I wanted to be an elementary teacher I haven't always been so informed on the steps to becoming one. I would like to do research on becoming an elementary school teacher. I know of course I need a bachelors degree and teaching credentials, but what happens after I have graduated and earned my teaching credentials? I am looking forward to doing research on my career to be more aware and not only that, but I am also looking forward to improve on my fluency and literacy. Even though I know how to use a computer and explore the Internet, I worry about whether the websites that I visit are legit. I would also like to improve on citing sources because sometimes I don't know where to find the information that is needed to cite located at.
